Capt. Pol Winston G. Haboc, Vice President of PHILCAMSAT, joined distinguished maritime leaders as a panel speaker at The Nautical Institute (Singapore) Conference 2026, held on August 20, 2026, sharing insights on how clearer career pathways can enable seafarers to continuously develop, progress, and pursue opportunities across the broader maritime industry.
This year’s theme, “Seaworthiness and Seafarers in a Changing World,” brought together maritime leaders to examine the challenges shaping the industry, including how to make maritime careers attractive and sustainable for the next generation. For PTC Group, this raised a fundamental question: How can we create a maritime career that people will choose, grow in, and build their future around?
That question came into focus during the “Seafaring as a Career” session, where Capt. Pol represented PHILCAMSAT and PTC Group, sharing the Group’s approach to career development beyond recruitment. He highlighted the Competence Badging System and Career Progression Program, which provide seafarers with structured pathways to develop, demonstrate, and gain recognition for their competencies—helping them see not only where they are today, but where their skills and experience can take them next.
This reflects a broader view of maritime careers: seafaring does not have to be the destination; it can be the foundation. Experience at sea can open opportunities for advancement, specialization, and eventually shore-based careers in maritime training and education, ship management, marine operations, safety and compliance, crewing, and other maritime fields.
