PTC and PTC-CSJ recognized at the Mapúa MCL IZN Highlights

FEBRUARY 7, 2025

On February 3, 2025, Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. (PTC) and the PTC-CSJ Foundation were honored at Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna's (Mapúa MCL) prestigious IZN Highlights event in Cabuyao, Laguna. Representing the organizations were C/E Alfredo G. Haboc, Senior Adviser for Shipping Education Business, and Engr. Marianne Camille G. Pastolero, Education and Training Officer. The event celebrated Mapúa MCL’s internationalization milestones alongside key industry partners.

A standout collaboration recognized during the event was the enduring partnership between Mapúa MCL and PTC, a model of industry-academia collaboration. Since its establishment in 2008, the Mapúa-PTC College of Maritime Education and Training (MPCMET) has played a pivotal role in shaping the future of maritime professionals, producing graduates who have assumed leadership roles in the global seafaring industry.

A key milestone in this partnership was Mapúa MCL’s accreditation by the Belgian Maritime Inspectorate (BMI) in 2014, reinforcing its commitment to global standards. As a recognized Belgian Maritime Institution, Mapúa MCL provides graduates with the added advantage of obtaining Certificates of Competency (COC) from Belgium. This accreditation contributed significantly to Mapúa MCL’s internationalization efforts and its autonomous status, granted by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) in 2019 and reaffirmed in 2024 under CHED Memorandum Order No. 07, Series of 2024.

Additionally, the PTC-CSJ Foundation’s scholarship programs have been instrumental in supporting aspiring maritime professionals. Since 2017, these scholarships have covered tuition and living allowances for qualified cadets, enabling many to excel in leadership positions aboard vessels.

This partnership exemplifies a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) No. 4: Quality Education and No. 17: Partnerships for the Goals. By continuously expanding educational opportunities and developing highly skilled Global Maritime Professionals, PTC, and Mapúa MCL remain dedicated to shaping the future of the maritime industry.
