PTC leaders address industry advancements at Crew Connect Global Conference

PTC CEO Gerardo Borromeo served as a moderator at the Seatrade Maritime Crew Connect Global Conference, held from November 12 to 14 at Shangri-La The Fort Manila in Taguig. He led an insightful panel discussion titled "Revising STCW: Where Are We Now, and How Can We Accelerate Progress?" which addressed the ongoing efforts to update and improve the STCW (Standards of Training, Certification, and Watchkeeping for Seafarers) Convention. The panel, comprising key policy influencers and maritime professionals, examined the latest advancements within STCW revisions, focusing on the implementation timelines and targets needed to meet the evolving needs of the industry.

Joining Mr. Borromeo were notable figures such as MARINA Administrator Sonia Malaluan, European Commission Policy Officer Justyna Bartnicka, INTERTANKO’s Capt. Mahyar Jokhi, ICS Senior Manager Arvind Natrajan, and Danish Maritime Authority Director-General Andreas Nordseth.

Adding to PTC’s presence at Crew Connect Global, Ms. Karen Avelino, Executive Director for Business Development in Shipping and SVP of Cruise Operations, participated in the Cruise Connect segment on November 12. She joined a panel discussion, "Global X Seatrade Cruise: Navigating Talent Acquisition and Training in the Growing Cruise Industry," which explored the future of workforce development in the expanding cruise industry. Topics included innovative strategies for attracting and training new talent while addressing changing workforce expectations and the unique demands of cruise ship life.

As the industry-leading conference dedicated to marine crewing and seafarer wellbeing, Seatrade Maritime Crew Connect Global offered a robust agenda and networking opportunities for maritime professionals. Alongside expert panels, the event featured an intimate showcase of crewing services and suppliers, as well as the prestigious Crew Connect Global Awards, recognizing excellence in crewing practices worldwide.
