PTCitizenship in Action: 54 Volunteers Support Education for Sustainable Development
APRIL 15, 2024
Demonstrating their commitment to sustainability through the PTCitizenship Program, 54 PTC Group members signed up as volunteers in the PTC-CSJ Foundation’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Project with WWF-Philippines. The ESD Project, held annually, aims to raise environmental awareness amongst young students and teachers and hopefully change their perspectives and practices towards sustainability. With topics including climate change, biodiversity, and environmental stewardship, this year’s ESD sessions are integrated into the Department of Education’s Catch-Up Fridays in the Foundation’s 12 public elementary school partners in Muntinlupa City. Every Friday, for the months of March and April, nine PTC volunteers, grouped into three, handle ESD sessions in two schools: one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Three volunteers work together to conduct interactive environmental education activities with a class of about 40-50 students. WWF gives the volunteers a brief orientation and visual aids before the sessions. Thus far, 27 volunteers have participated in the ESD sessions held on March 8, 15, and 22 in six schools. During debriefing sessions, the volunteers shared that they found the experience challenging at the start, but educational and fun in the end, not only for the students but for themselves as well. The next ESD sessions with the remaining 27 PTC volunteers will be held on April 12, 19, and 26, 2024 in six schools. Through PTCitizenship, PTC and PTC-CSJ provide opportunities for employees to embrace and demonstrate empathy, responsibility, and care for the environment. |
