JUNE 25, 2024

The PTC Group recently participated in the Expo Maritime Philippines: Cruise Travel Tourism and Maritime Careers Convention (CTTMCC) 2024 last June 11 and 12 held at the SMX Convention Center. The 2-day event organized by the Worldwide Maritime Operations Company (WMOC), aimed to establish the Philippines as a premier cruise destination in Southeast Asia while creating job opportunities for Filipinos in the tourism, hospitality, and cruise sectors. Stakeholders, government representatives, and leaders in the cruise and maritime industry had a chance to meet, share their expertise, and provide job opportunities.

The collaboration between the PTC Group through Captain Ronald SJ Enrile, SVP for Shipmanagement and Head of Talent Acquisition Group, and Captain Florencio Jampil, Director for Business Development for Crewing and Shipmanagement with the event committee of WMOC contributed to the convention’s success in engaging with a wider audience, including government officials, industry stakeholders, cruise operators, investors, maritime students and the media. The coverage of this event helped raise awareness about the Philippines’ potential as a premier cruise destination and the various career opportunities available in the tourism and maritime sectors.

Senator Cynthia Villar led the ribbon-cutting ceremony during the first day together with Ilocos Sur Governor Jerry Singson, Aklan Governor Jose Enrique Miraflores, Ako Ilokano Ako Partylist Representative Richelle Singson, Malay Mayor Floribar Bautista, Executive Assistant for Social Services Angelica Roa Yu representing Pasay Mayor Imelda Calixto-Rubiano and PTC’s Capt. Ronald SJ Enrile.

Other distinguished guests included Association for Cruises Development of Taiwan Chairman JP Tseng, Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) Trustee Fe Abling Yu, Palafox Associates Founder Architect Felino Palafox, Jr., DOT Director Paulo Tugbang and DOT National Capital Region Director Sharlene Zabala-Batin

Karen Avelino, PTC Executive Director of Business Development, Shipping, and Senior Vice President of Cruise Operations was the moderator in the afternoon session panel discussion on “Marketing the Filipino Workforce: Demand and Supply; Strengths and Challenges” participated by Capt. Enrile, Capt. Antonio Ladera, Maita Pangilinan, and Atty. Ronald de Guzman.

The highlight of this 2-day event was the job opportunities to Filipinos provided by various industry partners who were present during the convention including MSC Crewing Services Philippines, Inc., RCCL, and Virgin Voyages under Jebsen PTC including PHILCAMSAT, FMSS, and Constellation Travels. Over 5,000 applications were received by the participating PTC groups.

“When the organizers of this cruise convention approached us and asked assistance to put together and promote this event, I, together with Capt. Jampil did not hesitate to extend guidance and support because I believe the cruise industry holds significant importance both economically and socially, contributing to the various areas of local and global economies. The best part of this event was that we were able to promote the PTC brand and its various business units and bring in job opportunities to thousands of Filipino global maritime professionals in the global cruise industry,“ said Capt. Enrile.

Capt. Jampil added “This type of activity draws the attention of government officials and policymakers. We hope that through this effort we will be able to develop more supportive policies, improved regulations, and other government initiatives aimed at strengthening the cruise industry in the Philippines.”
