Exploring the Legacy Trail: PTC's Visit to Masungi Georeserve

FEBRUARY 8, 2024

On January 26, 2024, representatives from PTC Group paid a visit to the newly opened Legacy Trail at Masungi Georeserve in Baras, Rizal. This excursion provided them with insights into the fundamental role that forests play in our ecosystem and ignited a stronger commitment to environmental preservation. During the visit, the PTC team participated in various activities, including weeding, mulching, and nurturing trees.

Nestled amidst the karst rock formations, the Trail served as a tangible testament to the ongoing Comprehensive Forest Restoration efforts in the area. In the late 1990s, Masungi Georeserve and its surroundings faced severe challenges, including deforestation, land encroachment, illegal logging, and the looming threat of large-scale quarrying. However, dedicated restoration and rehabilitation efforts have significantly transformed the landscape.

Led by MGEN Restituto F. Padilla Jr., Executive Director for Corporate Public Policy, Risks, and Sustainability at PTC Holdings, the team had the privilege of meeting Ann Dumaliang, the co-founder and managing trustee of the Masungi Georeserve Foundation. During their meeting, Ms. Dumaliang shared the Foundation's reforestation achievements, which included the successful planting of over 100,000 native trees. She also highlighted the Foundation's commitment to environmental education, including a recent collaboration with the Canadian Embassy to educate 100 teachers on watershed management and environmental education in nearby communities.

For the members of the PTC team, this visit served as a reminder of the significant influence that can be generated when people come together to protect our environment. Nature possesses the remarkable capacity to convey invaluable teachings and spark meaningful transformations.
