Empowering the next generation of GMPs with the PTC Masterclass Series

FEBRUARY 28, 2024

The latest leg of the Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) Masterclass Series held at the Midway Colleges in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija last February 8, proved to be a transformative experience for over 350 3rd year and 4th year students taking up BS Maritime Transportation and BS Marine Engineering. With the theme “Defining the Global Maritime Professional of the Future,” the students were able to appreciate their chosen profession more deeply and understand the important role they play in shaping the future of the maritime industry.

During the two-hour session, PTC Shipmanagement’s Capt. Florencio Jampil shared valuable insights on the skills and knowledge essential for success in the maritime industry and defining the important qualities of a future GMP. He also provided updates on the maritime industry, shared his experiences, and gave practical advice to the students. His emphasis on continuous learning, self-improvement, and the ability to view challenges as opportunities resonated with aspiring maritime professionals.

Capt. Jampil and the TAG team were positively overwhelmed by the insightful questions and responses of the students during the session. Knowing that Filipinos are the preferred choice of shipowners worldwide because of their hard work, resilience, and adaptability, the students were motivated to ask more questions and get more tips from Capt. Jampil.

"Remember that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and development. Ngayon palang na kayo ay mga estudyante pa lamang, expand your knowledge and skills. At sa oras na nakasampa at nakapaglayag na kayo sa barko, huwag nyong hayaan na manatili kayo sa posisyon nyo. Never stop seeking to improve yourself. Always challenge yourself and keep learning, para darating ang araw na magiging kapitan or chief engineer din kayo sa barko," said Capt. Jampil.

Mr. Sabino Czar Manglicmot II, CEO of Midway Colleges, expressed his gratitude to Capt. Jampil and PTC TAG for organizing the enlightening session. He reinforced the importance of persistence, adaptability, and seizing opportunities, echoing Capt. Jampil’s message.

Mr. Manglicmot added, "I hope that you've learned a lot from your exchange with Capt. Paul. All his answers, which he shared with you, are really happening right now in the maritime industry. Always keep your eyes open for new opportunities and be ready to seize them when they come your way.”

As the students reflect on their masterclass experience, they are now better equipped to navigate their professional paths with renewed enthusiasm and determination. The initiative taken by the PTC Talent Acquisition Group (TAG) to organize such sessions demonstrates PTC’s commitment to nurturing talent and building a skilled workforce for the future. By empowering the next generation of Global Maritime Professionals with essential tools and knowledge through these sessions, TAG hopes to contribute to the continued success and sustainability of the maritime industry.
