MARCH 3, 2023

Ambassador Carlos Salinas, Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Filipino Shipowners Association (FSA); Mr. Gerardo Borromeo, PTC CEO and FSA Vice President; Capt. Ronald Enrile, Senior Vice President for PTC Ship Management & Head of the Talent Acquisition Group; Ms. Karen Avelino, PTC Executive Director of Business Development for Shipping and Senior Vice President of Cruise Operations; and MGEN Restituto Padilla, Jr., Executive Director for Corporate Public Policy, Risks and Sustainability of PTC Holdings, joined industry experts, government representatives, and other key stakeholders in pledging support for the Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028 at the first-ever Philippine Maritime Industry Summit held at the Manila Hotel last February 28.

The Summit highlights the Maritime Industry Development Plan (MIDP) 2028 — formulated by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and Department of Transportation (DOTr) — that ensures the development and expansion of the Philippine merchant fleet, and the advancement of a future-ready maritime human capital.

Philippine President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. graced the event and strongly echoed his administration’s mission to make the country’s maritime industry a top priority. "Given that the Philippines is a maritime nation, I believe that it is time for us to make the maritime industry once again a top priority. While we already hold a dominant position in the world of global shipping, I certainly believe that we can do more, especially here at home.”
"Today, we reiterate our commitment as a partner of the Government in its efforts to propel Philippine shipping," said Mr. Borromeo, representing FSA. "We wholeheartedly support and endorse the adoption of MARINA’s MIDP. The FSA commends the government for providing this 10-year maritime agenda. In doing so, we not only see ourselves as a maritime nation, but we truly become one."
"On behalf of the Philippine Association of Maritime Training Centers, Inc., it is our honor to support the MIDP. We pledge our full commitment to providing our Global Maritime Professionals with quality and excellence in training by elevating the training standards of the Philippine Maritime Industry," added Ms. Avelino.
