Challenging stereotypes: FAA's Female Flight Instructor Releases Female Pilot Trainee for Her First Solo Flight

FEBRUARY 10, 2023

The skies are changing in a male-dominated industry.

On February 7, 2023, FAA Flight Instructor Capt. Sam Regalado released PT (Pilot Trainee) Redge Apuang for her first solo flight. Not only does this milestone mark a significant step toward PT Redge’s journey to becoming a commercial pilot but is also an important event for FAA's commitment to supporting gender equality.

PT Redge went through rigorous training and was finally ready to take the skies on her own. Capt. Sam, her flight instructor, was confident in her abilities and had no reservations about releasing her for her first solo flight. The aviatrix displayed exceptional flying skills and a strong understanding of aircraft systems and safety procedures.

Women have come a long way in the field of aviation and this moment serves as a testament to their perseverance and determination. Despite facing challenges and obstacles, women continue to challenge stereotypes and pave the way for future generations of female pilots. Capt. Sam and Redge have proven that gender should never be a hindrance in pursuing one’s dreams and achieving their goals.
