Ms. Karen Avelino, PTC Executive Director of Business Development for Shipping and Senior Vice President of Cruise Operations, was recognized at the 2026 SeafarHER Awards, receiving the Advocacy for Women in Maritime Award during a ceremony held on September 24 at the Century Park Hotel in Manila.
The award, presented by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), recognizes women whose leadership, dedication, and advocacy have made a meaningful contribution to the Philippine maritime industry. Ms. Avelino was nominated by CE Antonino R. Gascon Jr. of the Philippine Association of Maritime Training Centers, Inc. (PAMTCI), of which she currently serves as president.
The SeafarHER Awards were launched by MARINA in June 2026 as part of the celebration of the Day of the Filipino Seafarer. The awards recognize exceptional women in maritime under two categories: Leadership in Seafaring and Advocacy for Women in Maritime.
Ms. Avelino’s recognition reflected her continued involvement in advancing opportunities for women across the maritime
sector, both through her work at PTC and her leadership in industry organizations. As PAMTCI president, she has also been involved in initiatives supporting maritime training and the development of maritime professionals.
The recognition added to Ms. Avelino’s longstanding contributions to the maritime industry and highlighted the important role of women leaders in shaping its future.
