Philippine Transmarine Carriers, Inc. (PTC), Jebsen PTC Maritime, Inc. (JPMI), and maritime health technology company bigyellowfish (BYF) have formalized a strategic partnership aimed at enhancing the health and wellness of Filipino seafarers through innovative, data-driven solutions.
The partnership agreement was signed on July 23 at First Maritime Place, bringing together key leaders from the three organizations in a shared commitment to advancing seafarer wellness through technology and preventive healthcare. Representing bigyellowfish was Capt. Soma Gollakota, Chief Executive Officer, while Engr. Peter Lugue, Vice President for Crewing Operations, signed on behalf of PTC, and Ms. Thess Lunzaga, Vice President for Crewing, signed on behalf of JPMI.
The collaboration marks a significant step toward strengthening preventive healthcare and wellness programs onboard vessels, ultimately contributing to safer operations and improved crew performance.
With more than 120,000 Global Maritime Professionals (GMPs) already enrolled in the bigyellowfish platform, PTC and JPMI are expanding access to the system, enabling more of their shipping principals to leverage its health analytics and wellness capabilities across their fleets.
Through the platform, shipowners and managers will gain valuable insights into the health risk profiles of their vessels, empowering them to make informed, data-driven decisions that can help minimize—or even prevent—medical repatriations resulting from health-related incidents. The initiative also provides crew managers and ship managers with actionable information to better understand the risk profile of their vessels, proactively mitigate health risks, and reduce the likelihood of onboard incidents and accidents.
Beyond providing valuable insights for shipowners and managers, the platform empowers GMPs to take charge of their own well-being. Through accessible health resources and personalized wellness content, seafarers can learn more about nutrition, fitness, mental wellness, and preventive care to support healthier lifestyles onboard and ashore. The platform also features gamification elements that encourage engagement, helping GMPs build healthy habits in a fun and motivating way.
An integral component of the program is the participation of Health Metrics, Inc. (HMI), the health diagnostics partner of PTC and JPMI. HMI will provide medical expertise and guidance in designing and implementing health interventions that promote the long-term wellness of Filipino seafarers onboard.
The partnership will begin with pilot implementations involving selected shipping principals, where wellness programs will be customized to meet the unique operational needs of each fleet. Following the pilot phase, the initiative is expected to expand to additional shipping principals, extending the benefits of the program across a broader segment of the maritime industry.
